Washington DC, Feb 13 (efe-epa).- Japanese electronics giant Nintendo on Wednesday announced the launch of «Super Mario Maker 2» for its Switch console as well as the return of «Link’s Awakening» from «The Legend of Zelda» series.
The highly anticipated «Super Mario Maker 2» will go on sale in June and will be launched exclusively for Nintendo Switch unlike its predecessor, which was launched on the Wii U console in 2015.
Nintendo did not reveal much details of the latest version of the groundbreaking original game.
However, the release date of «Link’s Awakening» from «The Legend of Zelda:, which was first published for the Game Boy in 1993, has still not been specified although it will be sometime during this year.
In the new version of the game, «players travel to the mysterious island of Koholint to guide Link on a perilous adventure», Nintendo said.
The Japanese company made these and other announcements in a new edition of Nintendo Direct presented by video game designer Yoshiaki Koizumi.
«Every game covered in this Nintendo Direct is slated for launch for Nintendo Switch this year,» said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, in a statement.
«Whether you’re looking for new games in classic franchises, new content for existing hits or completely new experiences, Nintendo Switch has something for everyone over the next several months alone.»
Nintendo also announced the debut on Apr.26 of BoxBoy! + BoxGirl!, a puzzler series for Nintendo Switch which will feature cooperative game play.
The Japanese company also said that a 99-player version of its iconic game Tetris will be available from Wednesday.
In the game, called «Tetris 99,» players will compete online against each other until there is only one left.
Yet another sequel to a classic game, «Mortal Kombat 11» will go on sale on Apr. 23.
Following its success on Playstation 4 and PC in 2018, Nintendo will release its role-playing game «Dragon Quest XI» in fall.
Other upcoming attractions include «Astral Chain,» in which players are part of a police special forces unit in a multicultural futuristic city, and a new «Fire Emblem» game called «Fire Emblem: Three Houses,» which will hit stores in June.
Finally, Nintendo announced Version 3.0 of its popular «Super Smash Bros. Ultimate,» which will be available at the end of April.
The company didn’t reveal many details of «Super Smash Bros. Ultimate» except that Joker from Persona 5 will arrive in the game before the end of April.
